New product announcement from Withings: U-Scan – the first hands-free connected urine set for the home
FREMONT, California: U-Scan, a breakthrough in-home biomarker analysis platform, is the result of four years of development by Withings, a global leader in connected health. U-Scan is one of the company’s most technologically advanced devices. It’s a miniaturized health laboratory that fits hygienically into any toilet bowl1 to capture valuable health information from urine every day. The Consumer Technology Association has already recognized U-Scan in three categories: Smart Home, Fitness & Sports and Digital Health.
In addition, Withings Health Solutions, the company’s business-to-business division serving the healthcare provider market, is making the technology available to partners for research purposes. “The ability of U-Scan to perform daily urine analysis from the comfort of your own home will allow Withings to take its mission of helping consumers fully utilize urine data to a whole new level,” said Mathieu Letombe, CEO of Withings . “It’s one of the most exciting and complex products we’ve ever announced. We begin this journey with U-Scan Cycle Sync and Nutri Balance and look forward to continuing to announce additional cartridges and medical applications of the technology.”
Automated sample collection – with a sophisticated reader in a toilet bowl
Designed to distinguish between external fluid and urine, the U-Scan reader measures just 90mm in diameter and automatically initiates samples for analysis. The pebbled design of the urine collection inlet allows for efficient urine flow to a collection inlet. Thermal sensors detect urine in a microfluidic circuit that activates a pump that begins a sample’s fluid journey.
Biomarker analysis – within a miniaturized urine laboratory tailored to specific use cases
Dozens of miniaturized test sleeves are contained within the rotating cylindrical U-Scan cartridge. The container is a tiny chemical evaluation chamber.
Actionable advice – science-based guided insights
People can develop habits for improved well-being using the Withings companion app that delivers results, actionable insights and guidance. The Withings app by Withings displays the results of the U-Scan Cycle Sync app in Europe, allowing users to track, coach and log their bike rides. To help women manage all aspects of their cycle, the device provides cycle predictions and ovulation windows based on hormone detection, key biomarkers of hydration and nutrition, specific gravity and pH levels. In the near future, U-Scan Cycle Sync will be available in the US after FDA approval. The solution will contain full information about its features as soon as it is available.
