If you’re an avid garbage disposal user, you’ve probably noticed an unpleasant odor emanating from your sink every now and then. The smell is probably coming from rotting bits of food that might still be stuck (ew, right?). But there is a way to stop it.

There are several home remedies to combat that awful smell – the most common are citrus fruits, vinegar and ice. So what if you combined all three to create the best garbage disposal cleaner ever?

Using citrus fruits to clean out the trash can is a popular cleaning trick, as the zest of lemons and oranges will cut through any bits of food left around the trash can’s blades, and the delicious citrus scent is a bonus. Meanwhile, vinegar is a natural bacteria killer, and ice actually helps sharpen the disposal blade.

Adding those three together is a combination your stinky garbage truck won’t stand a chance against.

To make this DIY garbage disposal cleaner, simply place citrus peels in a muffin tin or ice cube tray. Then fill the bowl with vinegar and freeze until set. Toss these suckers in your garbage truck and run them out. It won’t be long before that stench is replaced by the satisfying smell of citrus.

When you have those lemons outside, use them to eliminate unpleasant odors from your refrigerator and other household appliances. You know what they say – when life gives you lemons!
