The rising threat of carelessness in wound look after residence well being care suppliers

As wound care services have become more prevalent in the homecare world, the risk of liability for negligence has increased for providers.

Due to the Patient Directed Grouping Model (PDGM) and changing demographics – for reasons among others – wound care has recently become increasingly popular among home care providers. And yet it comes alongside cautionary tales that many providers may not be fully attuned to.

“Wound care is the second most common lawsuit after a wrongful death — lest litigation go away.” Amy Cassata, vice president of clinical success at Swift Medical, told Home Health Care News. “The average settlement for a pressure injury lawsuit is about $250,000. Approximately 33% of all malpractice claims are based on a lack of diagnosis, and 87% of those are in favor of the plaintiff.”
