Rebel Wilson has never been one to shy away from posting on social media that the beloved Pitch Perfect and Pain & Gain star has recorded and celebrated her 65-pound weight loss journey for the past year and a half. But in her latest Instagram post, in which she takes a somber pose against a moody sunset, she seems to reveal some heartbreaking news.
“I got bad news today and I had no one to share it with … but I think I have to tell someone,” the actress wrote. “For all the women out there struggling with fertility, I feel you.”
She did not go into the details of what had happened. She just added, “The universe works in mysterious ways and sometimes it all doesn’t make sense … but I hope light shines through all the dark clouds.”
Last year, the now 41-year-old actress revealed on Instagram Live that one of the driving forces behind taking care of her health in the first place – and ultimately losing weight – was in the interests of potential future fertility treatments. “I thought about fertility and had good eggs on the bank,” she explained. “I was like, ‘OK, I’ll do this, I’ll get well.'”
As anyone who has gone through the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF) can tell you, this is an extremely difficult experience – and failed pregnancies are terrifyingly common. “Women are less likely to get pregnant from IVF after age 35, in part because the risk of miscarriage increases as women age, especially those over 40,” say Penn Medicine health experts . They also find that women aged 41 to 42 years have a 5.7% chance, through treatment, of having a child of legal age with normal birth weight.
Studies have shown that the IVF process can be a harrowing journey that can have a huge impact on your psychological wellbeing, leading to depression and decreased self-esteem and confidence.
