The resident heard something outside his home on the 800 block on Marleen Street in the Edgebrook area, said Sgt. William Dunn of the Houston Police Department. At around 8:40 p.m., he stepped outside and saw a man break into his car parked in his driveway.

The resident, who had a firearm, confronted the man and fired his gun once, fatally killing him, Dunn said. The suspect had been in the car stealing property.
The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury to decide whether or not to bring charges.
The police are continuing their investigation.
