(Reuters) – Peloton’s fitness madness for the home has hit Big Law, and O’Melveny & Myers leads the way.

Beginning October 6, all US O’Melveny employees will have free access to Peloton’s digital platform for workouts and receive discounts on the company’s all-access membership and stationary bikes, which has grown a large and loyal following over the past few years to have. (One peloton trainer – Cody Rigsby – was recently cast in Dancing with the Stars, and the bike has even found its way into the White House, where the Bidens are reportedly negotiating who can use it first in the morning.)

According to Peloton Interactive Inc, O’Melveny is the first law firm to sign up for its Corporate Wellness Program, which debuted in June and is now used by UnitedHealthcare, SAP and Samsung, among others.

Peloton expands into the corporate market as law firms ramp up their mental health support and employee wellbeing offerings, not only thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic but research showing lawyers suffer from higher mental health, and substance abuse than other professionals.

Companies have taken different approaches over the past year. Goodwin Procter paid its employees a one-time payment of $ 1,000 to cover their remote working costs, whether it be for take-away meals or new exercise equipment. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe introduced an “Unplugged Week” policy in March that includes five additional days of vacation. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati introduced a program earlier this month that allows lawyers to take two weeks of extra paid vacation as a stress reliever.

O’Melveny executives hope the new Peloton partnership will make it easier and more convenient for employees to follow healthy fitness routines. Company employees will have access to thousands of live and on-demand courses ranging from yoga to strength training to meditation. You get a discount on Peloton’s All-Access membership, which applies to users who have the company’s exercise equipment, as well as discounts on its stationary bikes, which typically cost between $ 1,495 and $ 2,945.

(The company declined to discuss the cost of the program, saying it had an agreement with Peloton not to disclose the financial details of the agreement.)

The peloton program is the latest addition to O’Melveny’s “Stay Well” program, which started in 2019, said Chief Operating Officer George Demos, himself a peloton supporter.

“We immediately saw (Peloton’s Corporate Wellness Program) an opportunity to address not just physical health, but also the emotional and mental components of well-being,” Demos said in an interview on Tuesday. “The membership in the company gave us the opportunity to really build up the community within the company and to have fun at the same time.”

O’Melveny chairman Bradley Butwin said the early response to the program had been overwhelmingly positive. Training on a peloton bike helped his family of seven weather the worst of the pandemic, he said.

“It’s a great workout,” said Butwin. “And then there’s the fun part where it’s interactive. You connect with your instructors. “

Jennie Fagen Malloy, founder of workplace wellness firm Lights Camera Kale, said Tuesday that she welcomed the move by law firms to invest in employee wellbeing and that programs like O’Melveny’s peloton partnership are making fitness more accessible to busy lawyers can do. But these programs will not alleviate the underlying cause of lawyer stress, which is often excessive workload, she noted.

“I think this just scratches the surface of one of the bigger problems: the unrealistically high expectations that the billable hours system has,” Malloy wrote in an email. “Implementing policies that allow work-life balance will bring about bigger changes and make amazing tools like Peloton even more powerful.”
