NSU Persevering with Schooling Spring 2023 catalog now out there | information

Northeastern State University’s College of Extended Learning has released its course catalog for continuing education in Spring 2023.

“A continuing education course can help you pursue a new goal, make a career change, or simply learn a new skill you’ve been putting off,” said Anthony McCarty, NSU continuing education coordinator. “We have classes that cover everything from home fitness and personal safety to certifications in childcare, small business leadership or Microsoft Office skills.”

A new offer is the Child Care Training Certificate. As part of this course, students complete 160 hours of training focused on the growth and development of young children, the impact of family and community on children, professional child care, effective program planning and administration, safety, health and nutrition of young children, student and program evaluation and child counseling.

McCarty said the college also offers continuing education opportunities for businesses, which, while not included in the catalog, are an option for business owners. He said the courses cover soft skills that are often not covered by regular education. Topics include critical thinking, job search skills, customer service, working across generations, servant leadership and diversity, equity and inclusion training.

“These courses allow a company to contact us and let us do the legwork of providing trainers and curriculum to train their employers,” McCarty said. “The personal component enables the company to specialize more. So if there is a specific area, such as customer service, that agents need to focus on, we can focus on those situations instead of just providing an overview of customer service in general. ”
