Norma J Shaw, age 94, of Vandalia, MO, died at 12:26 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Tri-County Care Center.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Waters Funeral Home. Pastor Lionel Richard Shaw will officiate. The private family is buried in the Vandalia Cemetery.
The visitation to celebrate Norma’s life will be held at the Waters Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:30am to 11:00am.
Norma was born on August 30, 1927 in rural Vandalia, MO. She was the youngest of eight children born to Joseph L. Aderton and Zetha (Willie) Bull.
Norma graduated from Vandalia High School in 1945. She was married to Alvin O. Shaw on October 22, 1948 in Vandalia, MO. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include their five sons Larry Joseph Shaw of Vandalia, MO, Leon James Shaw (Sherri Ann) of Vandalia, MO, Lloyd Alvin Shaw (Krystal) of Vandalia, MO, Leland Albert Shaw of Columbia, MO and Lionel Richard Shaw ( Victoria) of Vandalia, MO; son-in-law, Shurl Moss of Vandalia, MO; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Shaw was preceded by a daughter, Loretta Ann Moss; daughter-in-law, Crystal Shaw; grandson, Lance Gabriel Shaw; Brothers, William Aderton, John Richard Aderton, Lionel Aderton, Gilbert Aderton and Curry Aderton; and sisters, Martha Milam and Nell Fern Deuser.
Norma’s first job was at Harbison-Walker Refractories, where she worked in the office. She later worked as a postal clerk from 1975-1979 as clerk and assistant land mailwoman. From 1998 to 2000 she worked for the US Census doing maps and census papers. Between her jobs, Norma was a housewife and for a time looked after her parents in their home and Gayle and Margaret McWhhirt did the home nursing.
In 1944 Norma joined the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia and in 1947 the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary and often volunteered at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Marshall, Brandon Marshall, Jason Shaw, Matt Shaw, Johnathan Shaw and Trevor Shaw.
Memorial contributions can be made to the VFW Auxiliary in the care of the Waters Funeral Home.
