Nancy Eleanor (Newcome) Knapp, 81, of Clarendon, PA, passed away peacefully at UPMC in Erie on March 15, 2021 after a brief illness with her family by her side. Born on October 9, 1939 in Brookville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Charlotte Newcome. Nancy graduated from Brookville High School in Brookville, PA in 1957. After graduation, Nancy attended nursing school and then became a housewife and seamstress. Nancy married Stephan J. Knapp on May 6, 1960 in Brookville, PA.
After Nancy moved to Clarendon, Pennsylvania with her husband in 1965, she worked as a nurse at Warren State Hospital and later at Loranger, where she retired. After she retired, Nancy enjoyed shopping, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, and crocheting blankets and hats for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nancy always loved hearing from her family. Was her favorite saying “I love my children and grandchildren, but my great-grandchildren are special.” She was very proud of her.
Four children remain in memory of Nancy: Curtis (Shirley) Knapp Clarendon, PA, Jack (Tammy) Knapp Chandler’s Valley, PA Michael (Lorene) Knapp Jamestown, NY, and Ed Knapp of Tennessee. Other survivors include her brother Thomas (Tom) Newcome from Hanover, PA, a sister Margaret (Peg) Newcome from Mechanicsburg, PA, and a sister-in-law Alberta Bish from New Bethlehem, PA. Nancy is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her surviving grandchildren, she is survived by Samantha Knapp, her loving granddaughter, who has provided home care and friendship to her all her life, but above all for the past seven years.
In addition to her parents, her 48-year-old husband Stephan J. Knapp, who died on August 30, 2008, a daughter-in-law Sheila Knapp (Tennessee), her brothers Melvin (Jake Newcome Jr.) died before her. , William (Bill) Newcome, Samuel (Eddie) Newcome, Arthur (Art) Newcome and Larry (Butch) Newcome and their sisters Melissa Newcome and Judith (Judy) Newcome.
