On June 24th, 2018, I decided it was time for me to do something for myself and my health. I was at a point in my life where breathing was a must. Every joint, bone, and muscle in my body hurt.
As a teacher, I could barely walk from the back of my classroom to the front. With multiple health issues, I looked ahead to my future and decided I didn’t like the direction it was headed. I had to change course.
Both of my parents had several health problems that began in their forties, and with my 40th birthday only two and a half months away, I didn’t want to go the same path they were on.
I started researching and teaching myself about health and wellness. Two and a half years later, I’m here with a healthier outlook on life. I’ve lost a total of 72 pounds with WW (Weight Watchers Reimagined) since July 1, 2018. *
While I haven’t met all of my health goals yet, WW has given me the tools I need to be successful on a lifelong journey.
I made the decision to return to the WW while driving home to Arizona from a trip to California.
At the time, both my sister and brother-in-law were in WW and showing great success. At that point, I had been trying to lose weight on my own for 6 months. I had tried my own diet and exercise plan, but they didn’t work. My weight just gained.
When I got home I decided to weigh myself. I couldn’t believe the number on the scale. I hadn’t weighed myself since September 2017. I was almost 30 pounds. The next morning I got up and started making a plan for success.
I spent the next 7 days researching WW. A simple Google search led me to YouTube, which led me to Instagram. This led me to find the #WW family on Instagram who guided me through my first steps in the program.
The tools made available to me through the WW app and workshops have been invaluable to my success.
In the app I can connect with other WW members and a WW coach. In addition to my food, I can also track my weight, sleep, and activity. I also have the option to look up recipes or write my own and save them for another time.
The new myWW + from WW (Weight Watchers Reimagined) is the most holistic weight loss program ever.
I love the weekly workshops. They make WW and the WW community feel so unique and special. For me it is important to take part in the studio or in virtual workshops on a weekly basis. For me, active listening is key during the workshop.
I love learning and listening to others discuss their ups and downs and their tips and tricks, which makes the workshops particularly meaningful to me.
Since the beginning of WW I have suffered several injuries that have severely disrupted my plans over the past two and a half years.
In the past, if I hit a speed bump, I would have thrown in the towel. But I’ve learned that it’s going to happen, so I just have to keep going. I have to do what I know is best and put into practice what I have learned to keep moving forward.
The following memories helped me during my weight loss journey:
- They are not defined by the number on the scale.
- This is a lifetime journey. Achieving a healthy weight is just the beginning.
- Find a community of people to support you on your journey.
- Putting yourself first doesn’t make you selfish. You cannot take care of others until you take care of yourself first.
Regardless of which weight loss program you choose, you are the key to your own success. Remember that you are enough and worth it.
