MUST WATCH: Ferrari endure a double DNF in Baku as Leclerc steps down from the lead

Carlos Sainz only managed lap 9 of 51 at the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix before retiring at Turn 4 with a problem – with teammate Charles Leclerc adding to Ferrari’s woes as he had to retire with his own problem.

Sainz was in P4 when he stopped with what he believed to be a brake-by-wire problem before plodding disconsolately back to the pits.

However, team-mate Leclerc was leading the race on lap 20 as smoke billowed out of the rear of his F1-75, the Monagasque driver had his second mechanical problem in three races – while being forced to watch as the Red Bull paired the title rival Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez romped to the top in a race without a Ferrari.
