MOVE program options
The Tennessee Valley Health Care System’s MOVE program offers a variety of services. Group or individual mentoring using various communication methods. These include traditional in-person visits, Veterans Video Connection (VVC), phone support (TELEMOVE!), secure messaging, and telemedicine equipment. Weight loss medication and pre-bariatric surgery screening can be provided along with self-management support. These options require extensive screening and certain requirements to be met.
Weight Loss Drugs:
Weight loss medications work best when combined with diet and activity changes. There must be a willingness to use the medication as part of a weight loss plan. After attending the first three core MOVE! An appointment at our weight loss medication clinic can be requested for courses. Individual screening is required and certain criteria must be met. Regular follow-up visits with our MOVE! Providers are required to keep the prescription up to date.
Weight loss surgery is intended for some veterans who remain severely obese after trying other weight loss methods or who have an obesity-related illness. Interested candidates must have the required MOVE! Education and meet initial eligibility criteria to complete a Bariatric Surgery Assessment. Completion of the TVHS MOVE! The Bariatric Pre-Screening Program is a prerequisite for submitting a Community Care bariatric surgery consultation.
The first step in the bariatric process is to participate in the MOVE! Bariatric seminar that takes place monthly. Veterans can call 615-225-4733 to schedule an appointment. A consultation is not required. After successfully completing the TVHS MOVE! Obesity Prescreening Program, a summary note with further recommendations will be presented to the prescribing physician.
