Five candidates are running in the Idaho gubernatorial race: incumbent Republican governor Brad Little, Democrat Stephen Heidt, independent Ammon Bundy, Libertarian Party candidate Paul Sand, and Constitution Party candidate Chantyrose Davidson. Here is a brief overview of the candidates.
Who is Brad Little?
Little is the incumbent Republican. According to the Deseret News, Little faced off against Trump-backed Lt. gov. Janice McGeachin. The Idaho Capital Sun said that Little’s major win “represents a victory for a traditional establishment Republican over a more extreme, far-right challenge from McGeachin.”
According to Ballotpedia, Little was born in Emmett, Idaho. He was previously appointed lieutenant governor before being elected governor. He was also a Senator for the 11th District of Idaho.
Who is Stefan Heidt?
Heidt is running as a Democrat in the Idaho gubernatorial election. Heidt earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brigham Young University and worked as an educator in the Idaho prison system prior to his 2022 term as governor. Heidt has also served in the US Army National Guard.
The Idaho Capital Sun reported that this is Heidt’s fourth congressional bid: He ran as a Republican in Utah and Washington in 1986, 1990 and 1994.
Who is Ammon Bundy?
In an article in Deseret News, Benoit Morenne and Sofia Jeremias described Bundy as “a folk hero in certain circles on the extreme right and something of a roving adviser.” Bundy is a controversial anti-government activist running as an independent in the Idaho gubernatorial election.
The Deseret News reported that Bundy was arrested six times for protesting stay-at-home orders and mask orders.
Who is Paul Sand?
Sand is the Libertarian nominee for governor of Idaho. According to Ballotpedia, Sand was born in Richfield, Minnesota. He then worked in various jobs including computer software engineer, entrepreneur, architect and systems analyst.
According to his website, Sand served on the White Bird City Council for 10 years and is a former member of the White Bird Volunteer Fire Department.
Who is Chantyrose Davidson?
Davidson is running for governor of Idaho, who is a member of the Constitution Party. According to Ballotpedia, she was born in Las Vegas. She worked as a home care worker and was a member of the Marsing Beautification Project.
Her campaign website said she decided to run for the Constitutional Party because “I’m fed up with partial truths and limited information. I’m tired of people who have nothing to lose and who are in control of what’s important to me.”
