Are you looking for natural ways to improve the appearance of your facial skin? Facial yoga is a great workout for your facial muscles and has many benefits, “including looking rejuvenated and glowing.” Karin, founder and lead instructor of Glowinface Face Yoga programs, told Express.co.uk how face yoga “helps to eliminate wrinkles and sagging skin naturally by releasing tension, activating, toning and tightening facial muscles”. She shared three beginner facial yoga poses that you can try at home.

Karin said there are 57 muscles in the face and they make up 60 percent of our facial structure. Then there’s 20 percent skin, 10 percent bone, and 10 percent fat.

Under the influence of gravity, our facial muscles begin to sag and lose volume. The skin is closely connected to the muscles and always follows them. As your muscles relax, your skin will have nowhere to lie and will wrinkle more and more, but face yoga can help keep muscles connected.

“In this way, facial exercises sculpt, lift and tone your face, improve your skin’s elasticity, reduce acne as well as headaches, improve focus, increase your energy levels and balance your whole body.”

Karin also spoke about the top skin issues women face as they age and how facial yoga can help reverse them. She said: “The most visible problems during the aging process are definitely wrinkles, sagging skin, dryness and a dull complexion.

“The point of facial exercises is to activate the muscles with the right movements, thus improving the blood flow to every cell and the lymphatic drainage.

“In this way, facial exercises help speed up the recovery process, strengthen skin’s collagen and elastin, and—most importantly—relieve tension and strengthen your facial muscles, which make up about 60 percent of your overall face shape—no other technique (massage , cupping, guasha) can do that.

“When muscles are exercised, they tug and pull on bone, helping to maintain bone density, which decreases with age — particularly during menopause.

“When you work your facial muscles, you get other benefits too — like vagus nerve stimulation, hormone balancing, improved focus and memory, and more,” she added.

Before you start facial yoga, Karin has one piece of advice: “You can create more wrinkles if you don’t do facial exercises properly. So make sure you use a mirror at the beginning to make sure you smooth the skin with your hands instead of wrinkling it.

“Make sure you hold each exercise for 30 seconds and repeat 3 times. It takes less than 10 minutes and you will already feel your face working!”

A Beginner’s Guide to Face Yoga – Three Exercises

“This exercise focuses on the upper part of the face,” the expert said. “It eliminates the wrinkles around the eyes, lifts the upper eyelids and clears stuck lymph from the lower eyelid.

“This exercise helps improve vision, balances the endocrine system, relieves headaches and provides energy.”

1. Place the ends of your palms on your temples and enclose your head with your fingers.

2. Check in the mirror that the ends of your palms cover the end of your eyebrows – they have to!

3. Press into the muscle with your palms first, then back and up.

4. Close your eyes and blink intensely until you feel your muscles work below.

5. Your neck, shoulders and other facial muscles must be relaxed.

Total facelift

Karin explains, “This facial yoga pose rejuvenates, tones and tones all 57 muscles in the face and neck. It reduces wrinkles on the face, neck and décolleté. The best time to incorporate this exercise into your routine is in the morning because it increases your energy, wakes you up, and clears your head.”

1. Make a long and narrow O with your mouth and hold it for a few seconds.

2. Then pull your upper and lower lips firmly inward over your teeth and hold them in place.

3. Hold the chin with your finger to keep your O long and narrow.

4. Then lift your cheeks from the corners of your mouth as if you are about to smile.

5. Be careful not to create wrinkles around the eyes. To prevent this, you can put your fingers on the temples, and then press into the muscles and up.

Goodbye double chin

“The Bye Bye Double Chin facial exercise strengthens and tones the muscle groups in, around and under the chin,” reveals the expert. “It helps lift sagging cheeks and strengthens the entire jaw.

“It also reduces wrinkles on either side of the chin, the so-called ‘pockets,’ it eliminates the double chin and smoothes the skin on the neck.”

1. Smile, open your mouth and make an “aaaa” sound.

2. Place your bottom lip and corners over your bottom teeth and push inward.

3. Begin to push your jaw outward – as far as it will go and try to lift your cheeks.

4. You need to feel the resistance between pulling your cheeks up and pushing your jaw out.

5. If your jawbone is stuck, cover the area around the mouth with two fingers on either side to prevent and hold wrinkles.
