Joel Markel is honored with the Excellence in Philanthropy Award from AFP-NJ

AFP-NJ (Assoc. Of Fundraising Professionals) will honor Joel Markel, Founder and President of Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services (PHHC), Eatontown, with the Excellence in Philanthropy during a virtual event from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Award 1.30 p.m. on Thursday, September 30th.

The AFP-NJ Excellence in Philanthropy Awards recognize fundraisers, consultants, donors, nonprofits, corporations, and other advocates for their generosity, impact, and will to improve lives in countless New Jersey communities. Receiving the Excellence in Philanthropy Awards is also a fundraising opportunity for AFP-NJ.

Markel and his family are known throughout the region for their philanthropic work. Markel is a lifelong director and chairman emeritus of the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation (ECF), which provides free specialized services to families in New Jersey caring for a child with cancer. He has a long-term commitment to the Homeless Health Initiatives, a volunteer program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Markel is also a supporter of the LADACIN Network, Brothers for Life and the Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County NJ, among others.

Joann Passantino, the executive director of the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation who nominated Markel for the AFP Award, said, “Joel is the nicest person I have ever met. Despite his many amazing accomplishments, he always remembers what it was like to be a family in need of help. His kindness and generosity are a real gift to ECF and to everyone who is lucky enough to know him. Nobody deserves this honor more than Joel. “

Since 1987, PHHC has provided a wide range of medical and non-medical home health services from child to elderly care in 16 locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Joel Markel prides himself on the fact that his agency “provides the highest levels of nursing and medical care while providing advice on the emotional problems families may face”.
