Joan L. Fulkroad, 78, of Mifflintown, died Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 3, 1944 in Lewistown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lester & Erma Strawser.

She is survived by her nearly 60-year-old husband James, their three children Judy Maben and husband Mike of Mifflintown, James Fulkroad, Jr., and wife Jennifer of New Cumberland and Jeffrey Fulkroad and wife Kelly of Mifflintown , six grandchildren, Lucas Maben and wife, Maggie, Marcus Maben and wife, Jaimee, Bailey Limeberry and husband, Tyler, Noah Fulkroad, Dylan Fulkroad and wife, Kaci and Taylor Fulkroad, six great-grandchildren, Bethany and Olivia Maben, Emersyn and Hudson Maben and Jayce and Saylor Fulkroad and two brothers, Clarence “Butsch” Strawser and Larry Strawser.

After graduating from Juniata Joint High School, class of 1962, she married the love of her life, Jim, on June 30, 1962 and they lived their entire married life in the same apartment.

She retired from Leonard’s Insurance after 38 years as a licensed insurance agent.

Joan has been a very active member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, where she is Luther League leader, Sunday School teacher, Past Church Council President, Women of ELCA, Past President of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Unit, Past President of Synodal Level and SSWO of Lewisburg. She has also been active in many community groups, including Cub Scout Leader, Round Table, member and past president of the Juniata County Business & Professional Women’s Club and past district director for District IV, member and past president of Kiwanis of Juniata County, member and district chair of the Juniata County Republican Committee and Past President of the Republican Women Council, Past President and Board Director of United Way of Mifflin-Juniata Counties, Board Director of Mifflin-Juniata County Shelter Services, Board and Advisory Board Member for Mifflin-Juniata Counties for Sun Home Health Care, Board Member of Juniata County Library and Past President of the Mifflin-Juniata Board for the American Cancer Society.

Her retirement activities included Meals on Wheels for Juniata County, Bountiful Blessings cashier, and visiting the trapped at St. Stephens Lutheran Church.

She loved her Lord, her family and her community. She always tried to give back and loved everything!

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 10:30 am at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Licking Creek Valley, conducted by Rev. Richard Adams. Burial will take place at Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery.

A viewing will take place on Friday, June 17 from 6pm to 8pm in the Lutheran Church of St. Stephen and on Saturday from 9.30am until the service in the church.
