In accordance with Nmami Agarwal, the white spots or dots in your nails may very well be an indication of vitamin deficiency
Nutritionist Nmami Agarwal says the white spots on your nails are a sign that you’re deficient in certain vitamins and minerals.
Foods rich in zinc can help reduce nail whiteness
Many of you may have seen certain unusual white spots on your nails. So what did you do then? Maybe you shared it with someone older than you, or just ignored it because it didn’t look like a sign of a serious medical condition anyway. However, there is something really important that you need to know about it. Those unwanted white dots on your nails may indicate something more that you need to be aware of. Nutritionist Nmami Agarwal shares exactly what these spots indicate in the third part of her Signs of Vitamin Deficiency series. According to her video, the nails indicate the lack of certain vitamins and minerals in your body. She also shares some sources for getting these nutrients from food.
Nmami Agarwal says: “You must have experienced white spots on your nails at some point in your life. Well, that’s due to a lack of certain vitamins and minerals.”
She explains that the nail plate is made up of a variety of nutrients. And a lack of certain nutrients can show up on the nails. Most often, this condition is associated with zinc and calcium deficiency.
So she suggests increasing your calcium and zinc intake the next time you notice white spots on your nails.
Some of the sources of zinc are foods like eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, and legumes. Calcium, on the other hand, can be obtained from sesame seeds, ragi, and dairy products.
Nmami Agarwal also discusses certain home remedies that are effective for various health problems. For acid, she says, there are four ways to keep acid at bay. She recommends taking a teaspoon of fennel seeds with warm water. Nmami also says that a small piece of jaggery — loaded with potassium and magnesium — will help deal with acidity. Simply chewing cumin seeds or boiling a tablespoon of them in a glass of water relieves the acidity. Ajwain (carom seeds) is great for acidity and bloating, Nmami adds.
Building a strong immune system is just as important if you want to stay healthy. According to Nmami Agarwal, there are many reasons why you need to work on boosting your immune system. A strong immune system fights off pathogens, fights viruses and bacteria, fights foreign bodies, and helps prevent infection and disease.
