CRESCENT CITY, Fla. – An intensified search for a missing 20-year-old mother from Putnam County found human remains in rural farmland in Crescent City, according to investigators on Saturday.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office called the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s mobile crime lab to identify the remains.
News4Jax expects to learn more from investigators at a press conference at 4 p.m., broadcast live on News4Jax.com.
Two days after Nyeisha Nelson’s family reported her missing to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the agency asked the public for help on Friday.

According to family members, Nelson picked up her daughter on February 10 and took her child to school the next morning. MPs said a neighbor reported seeing Nelson in the courtyard of her residence on Ohio Street in Crescent City before leaving in 2008 in her gray Honda Accord with a white t-shirt, gray shorts and a handbag.
Family members said Nelson usually stays in touch several times a day but has not reached anyone since Feb.11.
“If someone has seen my baby, please call the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office or call me,” said Nelson’s mother, Chasity Nelson, at a Friday afternoon press conference. “You can be anonymous. I just want to know where my baby is. “
Sheriff’s Office Col. Joe Wells said Nyeisha Nelson is well known and works as a freelance hairdresser. He said there has been a lot of support from the community.
The sheriff’s office told News4Jax that there was no sign of bad play at home and that there was no activity on her bank card.
Nelson’s vehicle was found abandoned in a wooded area outside Old US 17 not far from Crescent City. It was processed for evidence and K9 units raided the area, but there was no evidence of her.
Wells said it is not uncommon for several days to pass before healthy adults are reported missing. He said detectives and interviewed several witnesses and gathered several pieces of evidence.
Anyone with information about Nelson’s whereabouts, or who has seen her at any time since Feb. 11, is asked to call 911 or, to remain anonymous, call CrimeStoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-8477.
