Harrisonburg Tree Service Professionals share perception into caring for timber for future storm harm

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — People in the valley are still cleaning up after severe storms hit earlier this month.

With more summer storms, there are ways to reduce damage.

“Look at the trees, sometimes the bark is a different color, it’s dark and stuff,” said BG Powell, owner of Harrisonburg Tree Service Pros. “Usually when there’s a problem, the leaves fall off the top of the tree at the top, around the bottom you see… it looks black and dark.”

With tree care businesses struggling right now, Powell says there are some home remedies to keep your tree healthy.

“Run around the trees with some fertilizer, you know you’re about two meters or more from it, even if it’s a bigger tree, and just try to feed it from below, you know, just around keeping him healthy,” Powell said.

Powell said trees are dying in the area.

“There are a lot of insects in the trees now, more than there used to be,” Powell said. “All the ash trees have died, there are very few left and the people who have them have treated them, but there is only so much we can do.”

Powell said many, many trees were struck by lightning in our area as well, killing them.

Only arborists can purchase powerful chemicals to treat the trees. So if fertilizer isn’t enough, the next option would be to call an arborist to help you take care of your tree.

Powell said Harrisonburg Tree Service Pros try to help the tree as best they can and try not to cut down trees entirely.
