white wine vinegar

Since colored vinegar can stain your nails, use white vinegar to remove the stains instead. The moderate acidity of vinegar loosens stain particles on hard surfaces. To remove the stain with white vinegar, mix 1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon of distilled white vinegar in a cup of warm water. Soak your nails for about eight minutes before rinsing them off with lukewarm water. Apply a dab of moisturizer or lotion to your hands after wiping them dry with a clean towel.

Lemon juice at the rescue

The sour lemon juice effectively removes nail stains. Simply rub the pulp of a leftover lemon directly onto your nails for 30 to 60 seconds. Alternatively, you can soak a cotton swab in lemon juice and rub it over your nails. Leave it on for about 30 minutes before rinsing your hands with warm water. Afterward, be sure to keep your hands moisturized.

scrub your nails

If your nails become stained after wearing dark nail polish, use nail polish remover to remove the stain. Then scrape the stains off your nails with a nail brush. You can also clean your nails with a cotton pad soaked in acetone. However, this only works if your nails are stained with dark nail polish.

Combination of lemon and salt

Another successful home treatment is the use of lemon and salt. The lemon acts on the stain and the salt acts as a gentle buffer, buffing away the stain while leaving your nails shiny.
