Democrats full case of conviction

Washington – House Democrats finalize their case for convicting former President Donald Trump in his impeachment trial against the Senate Thursday, the day after they tabled a dramatic video timeline that recreates the scale of the January 6 attack on the Capitol illuminated.

Senior officials on the impeachment team said Thursday’s trial will focus on the aftermath of the attack, including Mr Trump’s role. They also plan to investigate the damage caused by the physical and other civil unrest, the president’s lack of remorse, and the legal issues that apply to the case.

“We in the team and in the managers are still convinced that this evidence can change one’s mind, and we believe we saw a little more movement yesterday,” said an aide. “Ultimately, I think that many of the questions that the senators spoke to the press last night have been thoroughly answered and their duty to convict will be clear.”

On Wednesday, impeachment managers spent hours working on the case that Mr Trump was responsible for inciting the mob that attacked the Capitol, arguing the attack was the violent culmination of months of efforts by the former president to uphold the integrity of the elections undermine.

Managers unveiled previously unseen security footage from the halls of Congress to drive home how close the rioters got to lawmakers, staff and Vice President Mike Pence who opposed Mr Trump’s requests to obstruct the vote count. The senators sat in silence as the managers and many of them presented the carefully constructed schedule saying They were shocked after reliving the violent episode.

“I know what I felt in the Senate Chamber when I heard those voices. I knew what it was like to run down this hall with my colleagues,” said Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski. “I wasn’t fully aware of what else was going on in the building. So when you see all the pieces coming together, just total awareness of the extent of that threat, not just to us as legislators, but the threat to the institution and what the Congress represents is worrying. “

The trial resumed at 12 noon on Thursday. The Democratic impeachment managers had eight hours to complete their case before Mr Trump’s legal team started the defense on Friday.
