Demi turns 60 in November but refuses to let her age define her. “It changes that notion that women become less desirable as they age,” she said persons about why she decided to design a swimwear collection with Andie and encouraging older women to wear bikinis and other sexy swimsuits. “We don’t want to look matronly or feel sexy.” She added, “Not being defined by a number, but by my experience. You hit 59 and you’re already thinking, ‘Well, I’m turning 60.’ It feels very liberating. When I think of my grandmother at 60, in some ways she seemed to have already come to terms with aging. But in many ways I feel more alive and present than ever.”

In her 2019 autobiography, Inside Out, Demi revealed that she used to have an unhealthy relationship with diet and exercise. “I couldn’t stop exercising…I was going to be flaunted again and all I could think about was my body, my body, my body…I doubled down on my already over-the-top exercise regimen. I cut carbs, ran and biked and worked out on every machine I could think of,” she wrote. After GI Jane, however, her priorities shifted. “I had reached my limit,” she said. “When I got back to Idaho, one day in the shower, I had an epiphany: I just need to be my natural size.”

Demi is still exercising but is focusing on toning her body rather than losing weight, according to her trainer Gregory Joujon-Roche. He told OneBodyOneLife.com that his client does abdominal and bicep curls to tone specific areas. “She wants to take it easy on her arms, stomach and lower body,” he revealed.

Demi is focused on having a healthy relationship with her body, especially as she ages. “I had a love-hate relationship with my body,” she said Harper’s Bazaar. “I’m sitting in a place today where I’m more accepting of my body. And that includes not just my weight, but all the things that come with your changing body.”
