What is the BRRRN Board?

The BRRRN board ($ 229-2999) is a five-foot, 28-pound, slippery board made from recycled rubber. It’s what is known as a slide board: you stand on it and do side-to-side exercises. You wear special ankle boots that come with the board so you can slide smoothly over the board. There are also gloves that allow you to slide your hands over the board. The board also comes with cloths to keep the board smooth.

Think of this as your little spot on an ice rink. Other sliding boards have been used by hockey players and skaters for several decades.

In addition to the board itself, you can purchase a monthly ($ 9.99 / month) or annual ($ 79.99) subscription to on-demand exercise videos for using the BRRRN board. BRRRN’s workouts include cardio, strength training, and yoga.

The BRRRN Board is manufactured by BRRRN, a company that opened a boutique exercise studio in Manhattan in 2018. The studio offers its slide boards in classes and expanded in 2020 to sell its slide boards to private customers. The personal studio focuses on cold workouts in a 50 degree studio.

There are now other smart workout mirrors on the market such as Forme Life, Tempo Studio and Tonal.

Both BRRRN and Mirror have unique fitness features, but which one is better for your needs? Here are some pros and cons of each item.

The advantages of the BRRRN board

  • The board can be used for low impact exercises. This is beneficial for those who can’t exercise at a higher intensity, says personal trainer and group fitness instructor Tami Smith, the owner of Fit Healthy Momma in St. Augustine, Florida. At the same time, you can use BRRRN for more demanding workouts and for interval training – from slower to higher intensity, says Pedemonte, who uses a BRRRN board.
  • The board’s focus on side-to-side movement is unique among fitness machines. These types of movements – like side lunges or rhythmically moving your feet from side to side – encourage your body to use more muscles and, if done correctly, could help prevent injury, says Smith.

“Exercising should be fun,” says Smith. “I hate to see people buy something just because they saw their friend or favorite influencer promote it, but they actually hate training.” If you don’t like the workout, stick with it much less often.
