Andrew Brown Jr Police Taking pictures: Elizabeth Metropolis declares a state of emergency because the household put together to observe a video

Few details of the shooting were released, but according to the shipping audio from that day, first responders can be heard saying a man had gunshot wounds to his back. Since then, peaceful protests across the city have urged officials to release the police body camera video of the shooting.

Brown’s family attorney Harry Daniels said the family expected to see the video on Monday, but was informed earlier in the day that officials are still editing portions of the video and that it was not ready.

“Show the tape,” Daniels said in a press conference on Monday. “If you have nothing to hide, show the tape.”

According to the city’s proclamation, city officials will formally file a request with the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office for the video to be released.

“It is likely that the video and audio will be released in the near future. To ensure the safety of our citizens and their property, city officials recognize that there may be riots in the city once it is released.” of the footage, “says the proclamation.

The shooting took place just a day after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of the murder of George Floyd in the most famous case of the Black Lives Matter era. However, the police killings of Brown and others in Ohio and Virginia last week have underscored the spread of police violence. The delay in the release of the video of Brown’s death also underscores the increasing importance of police cameras for transparency and accountability. In Columbus, Ohio, officials released body camera footage of the police shooting at Ma’Khia Bryant within hours. The North Carolina Sheriff says he plans to release footage of police shots taken by Andrew Brown Jr. and may file a motion on Monday

North Carolina law requires police body camera recordings to be made available to the public only with a court order. Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten said the county plans to file a motion in court for the footage to be released.

Brown’s family met with Wooten on Friday and thought they would be shown the footage from the body camera, but that didn’t happen, they told CNN.

Brown’s aunt Betty Banks said the family had been told that authorities had not found any drugs or weapons in Brown’s car or home. The warrant served on Brown when he was shot was on drug charges, Vice Chairman Daniel Fogg said.

“We know there’s something bad about this bodycam video,” Crump, who represents Brown’s family, told CNN on Saturday. “Transparency is important.”

Seven MPs have been taken on administrative leave after the shooting, two more have resigned and one MP has retired, Wooten told CNN. Not all MPs on administrative leave released their firearms, he added, but they were all part of the warrant operation.

Elizabeth City is in the northeast corner of North Carolina and has just under 18,000 residents, about half of whom are black, according to the US census.
