One person was killed and another wounded in a shooting on a San Francisco Muni train Wednesday morning, police said.
The shooting happened around 10 a.m. between Forest Hill and Castro train stations, said San Francisco police officer Kathryn Winters. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the train at Castro station and remains at large.
Winters said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident.
“I also want to reassure the community that this incident does not appear to have any connection to Pride events or appears to be directed at the LGBTQ community,” Winters said. “We really want to make sure that our community members and visitors who are in town during Pride week understand that.”
It was not immediately known if the suspect and victims knew each other. Police are investigating possible connections and are also investigating what led to the shooting.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting is being asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department.
The Muni subway service between West Portal and Castro stations has been suspended, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said.
The incident happened at around 09:54 this morning. LRV Line Castro Station. Witnesses are asked to remain at the scene and speak with Castro Station investigators.
